SALES REPORT BY RUTH ROGERS –

“The number of overseas buyers present was most encouraging and trade was steady at the Mullingar Equestrian Sales last Sunday especially for Connemara geldings.

Top price of the day was €5,000 paid by Milena & Elina Rautiainen from Finland for Jason Finnegan’s Dun Gelding Holiday Inspiration ((Celtic View-Holiday Cruise Bambi) (Lot 21)

Stall Osyandas & Tore Dahi from Norway went to €1,900 for John Burke’s 6.y.o grey gelding Pocan Prince (Creg Aine Cove Derrymore Connies) (Lot 5)

Jim Derwin was busy all day and he secured four animals including Sean Walsh’s Grey Connemara Mare, Maid Marian’s Girl (Monaghanstown Pat-Broomhill Silver Robe) €1,700 (Lot 15), Claudine Loughrey’s 6 yo Piebald gelding All the Marks €3,300 (Lot 45), Tom Tully’s 7 yo Piebald mare Baby Kojack €1,450 (Lot 53) and Susan Mee’s unnamed 10 yo grey mare by Huntingfield Rebel-Kilbecanty Lass) €2,600) (Lot 63).

Derwin said “It was a well-run sale and there was quality rather than quantity, the facilities at Mullingar make it very easy to see horses prior to going into the ring and the main thing was they kept moving all day.”

Nicky Coventry from Wales travelled with her son Matthew, and paid €1,850 for John Burke’s grey Connemara gelding Eibhir Aill Na Brun (Knockillaree Tomas-Sonas Aill na Brun)(Lot 33). She also got Esther Trenier’s Ricardo Dream (Lot 54) for €1,500.

Coventry said “we are bowled over with the facilities here and we will certainly be coming back”.

Nigel Crowe from Kilmessan paid €1,600 for Michael Regan’s 4 yo Dun gelding Earl by Emo Berti (Lot 14). Crowe said “I saw an 11 year old girl on his back in the sand arena, he might be green but he is so quiet and I know the kids will have great fun with him”.
